Captain Eric
Ahoy! Eric Skilbred is a Sag Harbor native. He grew up sailing, yachting, and surfing in the local waters. After 30 plus years exploring the area by water, he has an intimate knowledge of all the best beaches and conditions for any local adventure.
After graduating Hofstra University, he traveled around Hawaii and the Caribbean. There he was surrounded by some of the biggest waves and best winds. He taught with the world's best surfers and windsurfers, giving him a wealth of experience on the sea. Eric has experience sailing and yachting on many different types of vessels in all sea conditions.
Eric instructed for and managed Hampton Watersports and the Town of Southampton windsurfing/paddleboarding program for over a decade. This involved leading thousands of kids into the elements safely and professionally. Water safety was always a forethought in sailing, surfing, windsurfing, and paddling lessons. His passion and skill in these watersports resonates within the children and adults he teaches. Whether it is big waves or calm seas, there is always an adventure to be had!
Every summer Eric was drawn back to his hometown of Sag Harbor. This special whaling village is a unique gem that most visitors find to be one the highlights of the northeast. Within its culture, community, and local waters there are spectacular places to escape, explore and experience. At Sea Escapes we want to share this passion with you.
Captain Skilbred holds a US Coast Guard 25 Ton Masters License with a sailing endorsement. He is Insured and CPR / First Aid trained. He also hold a US Sailing Windsurfing Instructor certificate.
